We look forward to welcoming you to our practice; however, seeing a Specialist is a different type of relationship than with your GP, and we ask that you consider the following information prior to contacting or attending our practice:
- Referrals are triaged by clinical urgency - there are fewer specialists per person than GPs, and so our time is stretched thin. Many conditions referred to our service can be life threatening and dangerous, and extended wait times (up to many months) can apply for routine, non-critical issues. This can, unfortunately, include situations where the diagnosis may not be clear from your GP but the seriousness is established as low-risk.
- Repeat prescriptions should be provided by your GP - any repeat prescriptions should ideally be coordinated with your GP. This allows them to be fully up to date with your current therapies, and facilitates their role as the key coordinator and linch-pin of your care. We do not have the capacity to provide prescriptions without an appointment, and urgent appointments for script refills are not possible.
- Access to your specialist may be less than to your GP - specialists are spread thin and appointments are generally harder to arrange in a short timeframe; again, clinical urgency is taken into account, but for most urgent issues you will need to see your GP. Your GP can discuss your care directly with your specialist if-needed (and all Beach Brain doctors are available to discuss with GPs).
- We cannot handle medical issues by email - please call to book an appointment with your specialist to discuss any issues; if this cannot occur in a reasonable timeframe, you will need to see your GP.
